MALLARD:
Male: unmistakable green-purplish head, white collar and dark reddish-brown
chest.
Female: brown with buff-colored throat.
Both have distinctive metallic blue wing patches bordered with white bars. |

BLUE-WINGED TEAL:
Male: small dark-coloured duck with a striking white crescent in front of the
eye. Large chalky-blue shoulder patches are separated from the green speculum by a
narrow white bar.
Female: dark brown colour shading to lighter brown breast, with blue shoulder
patches similar to male. |

CANVASBACK:
A large diving duck distinguished by a wedge-shaped bill and sloping forehead.
Male: dark chestnut-red head, black chest and white body.
Female: brownish colour with grey back.
Both sexes have dark brown wings with grey patches. |

REDHEAD:
Large ducks with a pronounced high forehead.
Male: distinctive with a chestnut-red head, black chest, white breast and dark
grey body.
Female: white breasted with brownish body, shading to grey back. W Wings are dark
grey-brown with grey wing patches. |

AMERICAN WIGEON:
Also formerly called baldpate.
Male: easily identified by its white crown, dark mask through the eyes, bold
white wing shoulder patches and metallic green and black speculum.
Female: inconspicuous brown colour, with grey head, greyish shoulder patches and
a similar but duller speculum. |

NORTHERN SHOVELER:
Also known as the spoon-bill. Common colourful duck, with an over-sized, spoon-like
bill.
Male: a glossy green head, white chest, and chestnut-red sides. Wing
pattern and colour very similar to the blue-winged teal.
Female: plain brownish plumage with paler wing pattern than the male. |

CANADA GOOSE: All Canadas have a greyish body and a black head and neck with a
distinctive white cheek patch, but there are numerous races or subspecies with substantial
differences in weight and size. Smaller races are about the size of a large duck, while
larger races can exceed nine kilograms with a wingspan of more than a metre. |
LESSER CANADA GOOSE: Medium goose with medium gray
breast, black neck and front of head, white cheek patches; male and female are marked the
same
INTERIOR CANADA GOOSE: Large goose with medium gray breast, black neck
and front of head, white cheek patches; male and female are marked the same
GIANT CANADA GOOSE: Large goose with light gray breast, black neck and
front of head, white cheek patches and white spot on black of head-front; male and female
