WALLEYE - Also
known as pickerel. Every year Lake of the Prairie is host to the Prairie
Classic Catch & Release Tournament. Hundreds of anglers from
all over North America come to try their luck with this plentiful
species.

RAINBOW TROUT - To
catch a Master Angler rainbow trout on a dry fly is a memorable
experience. More than 43,500 rainbows have been stocked between the
four lakes in our area, making the Russell region one of the best fly
fishing spots in North America.

BROWN TROUT - Very
similar to the rainbow trout these fish will challenge any fisherperson.
Lots of master anglers are out there. Try these fish smoked to enjoy
for days.

BROOK TROUT - Also
known as speckled trout or "brookie". Grab your fly rod
and head out for a wonderful fishing experience. Although northern
rivers is home to most of the Manitoba brook trout they can also be found
just 45 minutes from Russell in Deep Lake. Remember Deep Lake is
inside Riding National Park bounders and a special park license is
required to fish there.

CARP
- An increase
of masters of carp have been caught in the region and with size comes age.
These fish will definitely test your skill and patients. Usually
considered bottom feeders who will go after corn, they occasionally will
also go after surface insects.

CHANNEL CATFISH -
Looking for a challenge? These monster fish are known to go 10 or
more rounds before they will let you reel them in. With a single
hook and bait such as goldeye, chicken livers, worms or shrimp, this fish
will not disappoint.

MOONEYE - Similar
to the Goldeye but smaller. Served best smoked.

NORTHERN PIKE -

SPAR- A crossbred
with brook trout and arctic char "Spar" is new to this area.
15,000 spar were stocked into Seech Lake sized between 12-15 cms.
Combine that with the 31,000 rainbow & brown trout also placed there
and this lake is a fly fisherman's dream come true.

GOLDEYE
- Often
caught near the Shellmouth Dam the smoked goldeye is a flavour known world
wide. Try a dry fly or small hook baited with a worm or
grasshopper for best results.

PERCH - Want
guaranteed success? These little guys will often strike
simultaneously on a pickerel rig. They are the ticket to making a great
family fishing trip, fantastic! Excellent for kids or new comings to
the sport of fishing also terrific pan fried.
